I’m leaving for Sweden on Sunday. Before that, I decided to stop by the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek(New Carlsberg Sculpture Museum) first thing in the morning. That’s because admission to this museum is free on Sundays. I was also hoping to see some works by Renoir that I hadn’t been able to see at the National Gallery the day before.
Even in the capital, Copenhagen, on a Sunday, the only places open are newsstands, bakeries, and flower shops. It’s very quiet.
Carlsberg? That’s right. Alongside Heineken of the Netherlands, it’s one of Europe’s leading Danish beer manufacturers. This museum displays the collection of the son of Carlsberg’s founder.
In addition to works by Denmark’s leading sculptors, there are many paintings by the great masters on display. Among them were several works by Renoir—I believe there were five or six.
[Oh, there it is—Renoir!] It was definitely worth stopping by the museum.
In Copenhagen, there are many museums and art galleries that offer free admission on certain days of the week. Currently, the New Carlsberg Sculpture Museum offers free admission on Sundays. Finally, here are some photos I took around the city.
日曜日、スウェーデンに向けて出発です。その前に朝イチで「新カールスバーグ彫刻美術館 (New Carlsberg Sculpture Museum)」に寄ることにしました。
この美術館は日曜日に限り入館がタダになるからです。それと前日の国立美術館でご対面(?)できなかったルノアールの作品があればと思っていました。
首都コペンハーゲンも日曜日ともなれば開いているのはキオスクとパン屋と花屋だけ。閑散としています。
カールスバーグ? そうです。オランダのハイネケンと並んでヨーロッパを代表するデンマークのビールメーカーです。この美術館はそのカールスバーグ社の創始者の息子のコレクションを展示しているのです。
デンマークを代表する彫刻家の作品のほか巨匠たちの絵画も多く展示されています。そんなに中にルノアールの作品が数点、確か５､６点だったと思います。

コペンハーゲンには曜日によって入場料が無料になる美術館や博物館が多くあります。現在もこの新カールスバーグ彫刻美術館は日曜日の入館料は無料です。最後に市内で撮った写真を。
This is the “Andersen Statue,” located at the edge of City Hall Square, next to the City Hall building. Unlike the Little Mermaid statue, there weren’t many visitors.
Since there are Andersen statues in various places, that might just be how it is. Tivoli Gardens is located directly across from the Andersen Statue.
これは市庁舎広場の端、市庁舎の建物の横にある「アンデルセン像」です。人魚像と違って訪れる人はあまりいませんでした。
アンデルセンの像は色々な所に設置されていますからそんなもんかも知れません。アンデルセン像の向かい側がチボリ公園になっています。
This is a photo of the entrance to the famous Tivoli Gardens. It is said to have been built in 1843 by the king of the time, who wanted to provide entertainment for the citizens. The park is open from April to September, though it does open temporarily during the Halloween and Christmas market seasons.
Since it’s right across the street from Central Station, I was surprised to see the park on my first day in Copenhagen, thinking, “Wait, it’s right here?” However, I didn’t end up visiting it during my stay in Copenhagen. I just didn’t feel like it was the kind of place to go alone.
これが有名なチボリ公園の入り口の写真です。1843年、時の国王が「市民にも娯楽を」ということで建てられたそうです。公園のオープンは４月から９月まで。だだし、ハロウィンとクリスマスマーケットのシーズンだけ臨時オープンします。
中央駅と道一本隔てて向かい合っていますからコペンハーゲン初日に［えッ、こんなところにあるんだ］と驚きをもってこの公園を見ていました。ただし、コペンハーゲン滞在中に行くことはありませんでした。一人で行く所ではない気がしたもんですから。
