Next up was ordering the camper van, and I decided to go with Friend Shokai, a long-established shop in Asagaya, Tokyo. At the time, I frequently visited them to buy parts and supplies. In addition to their extensive selection, I appreciated that I could stop by on my way home from work. The shop had a parts section on the first floor and a showroom on the second floor, where their original Leopard camping bike (later renamed) was displayed alongside bikes from other manufacturers. I liked its calm, solid feel and was convinced that if I were to order a camping bike, this was the one.
I feel that camping bikes have evolved in a way that is unique to Japan. Due to the nature of their intended use, strength is essential, so the frame tubes are made slightly thicker, and the frame construction employs a cross-seat stay. The most distinctive feature is the sturdy pipe carrier designed to suspend heavy side bags. It is positioned low to ensure riding stability.

次はキャンピング車の発注ですが、阿佐ヶ谷にある老舗のフレンド商会に頼むことに。当時、パーツや消耗品などの購入によく利用していました。豊富な品ぞろえに加え、会社帰りに寄れるのも魅力でした。ショップは１階がパーツコーナー、２階が展示コーナーになっており、メーカー車に混じってオリジナルのレパード・キャンピング車（後に名称変更）も展示していました。落ち着いたドッシリとした感じが気に入って、キャンピング車のオーダーならコレだと思っていました。
キャンピング車は日本独自の進化をしたように思います。用途の性格上、強度が求められ、フレームチューブをやや肉厚にし、フレーム組みはクロスシートステイを採用しています。最も特徴的なのが、重いサイドバッグを吊り下げるための丈夫なパイプキャリアです。走行の安定性を図るために低い位置設定になっています。
