I left Japan on May 29, 1982, and arrived at Los Angeles International Airport. From there, I spent about five months traveling back and forth between the United States and Canada, crossing the North American continent, until I departed from New York’s JFK Airport on October 23 of the same year. The total distance covered was 9,700 km. Since the shortest route by car is apparently about 4,500 km, this means I traveled more than twice that distance.
